Efficient grazing and utilisation have proved vital in creating a profitable enterprise for Mathew Venables since acquiring the 132ha (326 acre) contract-farmed Pigeon House Farm in Cheshire in 2008.

Careful nutrient management, regular soil testing and weekly grass measuring means that the 480 spring-calving New Zealand crossbred cows achieve almost 70% of their 5,000 litres of milk from forage.

Visitors will get the chance to see the cows grazing top quality swards, hear about the progress made over the past 12 months, and learn how Mat coped with the challenges of the wet winter.

Topics on the day:

  • View award winning 132ha grassland farm & 480 NZ crossbred cows
  • Efficient grazing to optimise milk from forage
  • Feed budgeting
  • Sward renewal methods
  • Soil and grass management following recent wet weather
