Dorset Grassland Society Meeting

Dorset Grassland Society Meeting

Tuesday 1st November – 7.30pm The Langton Arms, Tarrant Monkton

Tom Rawson of Evolution Farming – Grasp the opportunities

Tom Rawson only really ‘got into’ cows in his mid-twenties, today – ten years later as well as milking 300 Spring calving cows along with his wife, Catherine on a family tenancy in Yorkshire, through Evolution Farming he contract milks 1000 cows on other units all on block calving systems – with more on the way.

He undertook a Nuffield Farming Scholarship in 2005 to look at “once a day milking” and is currently a farmer board member of the levy body AHDB Dairy, involved with the NFU as county vice chairman for the West Riding, Vice Chair of the National Dairy Board and Chair of the regional dairy board.

He has also recently written a Henry Plumb Foundation report about opportunities in dairying farming and how to build a highly replicable system of “the farming ladder” from trainee through to farm owner in the UK, and make sure people have the skills required to manage multi-site businesses.

He will speak about his journey to the successful business he runs today and what opportunities may arise in the future.  A talk not to be missed!

Members of Doreset Grassland Society may attend and may bring neighbours and fellow farmers to introduce them to the Society.
