Dorset Grassland Society meeting - Young people in the dairy industry

Tuesday 7th November, Sam Carey - Young people in the dairy industry, The Langton Arms, Tarrant Monkton, 7.30pm 

Sam Carey is a share farmer in partnership with Richard Price of The Rhiwlas Estate in Bala, North Wales. Sam studied agriculture at Harper Adams University, winning numerous awards including the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society Scholarship, sponsored by Waitrose.

He has worked in Oxfordshire, Arizona and New Zealand, as well as in North Wales, and in 2011 reached the final of the Welsh-language farming competition 'Fferm Ffactor'. In 2015 Sam was announced as the winner of the NFU Cymru / NFU Mutual Welsh Dairy ‘Stockperson of the Year Award’ during the Welsh Dairy Show at Nantyci, Carmarthenshire. 

In 2017 he was awarded the Richard John Memorial Bursary to study methods of incentivisation and motivation in improving employment in the dairy industry.

With his team he currently farming 600 acres, milking 530 block calving cows and rearing approximately 300 head of youngstock.
