Maize Cropping and growing grass as a catch and cover crop to reduce soil erosion

Simon Draper is an Independent Rural Business Consultant advising farmers both on a regional and national basis over the past 35 years. Simon advises on some 10,000 ha of arable cropping and has a family farm of some 400 ha.  He delivers advice to both arable and livestock farmers making him one of the few advisors working in both sectors.

He is retained by the Maize Growers Association as their national Agronomist and has represented the MGA on the NIAB panel.  In his role as the MGA National Agronomist he provides technical advice on cropping, cultivation and the growing of the maize crop to all members of the group.

He has delivered since its inception cross compliance advice on behalf of the Farm Advisory Service of Defra and is responsible for delivery in the South East of England.  He is also part of the three-man technical advisory panel to Defra on cross compliance issues and changes in the regulations with reference to soil management.

Over the past 10 years he has delivered numerous soil and nutrient workshops and soil and nutrient management courses to farmers in all areas of the UK and provides training for the BASIS soil and water course for advisors.
