27th European Grassland Federation General Meeting

Sustainable Meat and Milk Production from Grasslands

17th - 21st June 2018

in Cork, Ireland

In 2018, the EGF will be hosted by Teagasc in Cork Ireland. This will be the 27th General meeting, it was previously hosted in Dublin in 1988. Cork is the second biggest city in Ireland and is located in the heart of dairying in Ireland, it will offer delegates the first hand opportunity to see and experience dairy, beef and sheep production from grassland. Ruminant agriculture in Ireland is a major contributor to the Irish economy and is strongly export based. Irish agriculture prides itself on its green image from high quality produce originating from grazed pasture.


The deadline for submission of abstracts (no more than 200 words) is has been extended until September 15th.

European grasslands:
Future, potential, challenges - can we
build resilient grassland systems



 The plenary and poster sessions
    • Resilient plants for grass based ruminant production systems, adapting grassland systems to the dynamics of climate and resource availability
    • Appropriate livestock for grasslands, key characteristics of animals adapted to and suitable for grasslands
    • Environmental influences on grassland systems – consequences of climate change, mitigation strategies, and impacts on ecosystems
    • Social and economic impacts of grass based ruminant production
    • Big data and smart technologies in grassland
    • Knowledge Transfer to stakeholders

Master classes will be organised for young scientists and students.
An accompanying persons programme will also be available..
