BGS Welcome's Charlotte!

BGS Welcome's Charlotte!

Tuesday, April 29, 2014

BGS is pleased to welcome Charlotte Evans to the team, who will be working part-time as Technical Project Manager.

Charlotte joins BGS following her role as an adviser on the 'Soils for Profit' project delivered by Natural England in the South West. Previously she has had roles with Duchy College on the South West Regional Skills Programme, delivering training to the agricultural and forestry sectors and has worked in Ireland for a number of years developing Environmental Education programmes.

She is an Aberystwyth University graduate, and investigated the relationship between framing practices and climate change resilience for her Research Masters, also at Aberystwyth.

Living on a beef farm in Cornwall, Charlotte is  says she is passionate about building a sustainable future of farming and farmers in the UK.

“I am delighted to join the BGS team as I share the BGS commitment to up-skilling of the industry at the grass-roots level. I believe that these are very exciting times within agriculture: We (farmers) are at the centre of many of the major challenges facing decision makers the World over. Decreasing availability of productive land, global population growth and the valuation of ecosystem services are driving trends in agricultural and land-use policy.

"Grassland systems have a huge part to play in the coming together of these often conflicting motivations. Grassland farmers have a huge opportunity to lead the way in providing reliable, nutritious, affordable food, through environmentally beneficial and profitable means of production. I want to see grassland farmers in the UK engage with knowledge transfer projects and work together to bridge the gap between science and practice, so that they are in the best position to maximise the potential posed by this opportunity for themselves.”

Charlotte will initially be working alongside Rachel Greenow, until she starts maternity leave before the birth of her second baby in June.

Charlotte says ‘I am looking forward to the role enormously, especially bringing together the inspirational farmer members of BGS and the researchers and specialists the society engages with."
