Our former Director, Elaine Jewkes, is fundraising for Alzheimer's Society and Cancer Research UK after losing family and friends to these diseases.

Some of you reading this will know that Elaine has said for a while that she would do a fundraising ride in memory of her Mum, who she lost to Alzheimer’s Disease last year.  But it will also be 30 years in September since her Dad died, so Elaine is making it a "Ride to Remember" - for her Mum, her Dad and her close friend Gaby (who died from cancer this year).  However, it is also for all of us who have been touched by these devastating diseases.

Here, Elaine tells us what she is doing:
‘I'm off to the SW corner of France from Sept 9-13th to ride the RAID Pyrenean: a 735km traverse of the Pyrenees, with around 12000m climbing, which is to be completed in no more than 100 hours start to finish - 4.5 days. I'm going on an organised trip, but am still a tad nervous - yes, I've ridden plenty of 150-200km one-day rides with lots of climbing, but haven't had to get up and do it again the next day. And the next, plus another couple. OK, I'm not carrying luggage like my last fundraiser, but the average daily mileage will be higher, as well as the climbs!
I hope it'll be a ride to remember in positive ways; the Pyrenees has been "on the list" for a long time so hopefully the beauty and spectacular scenery will be worth the effort. But your support and donations will be a vital help towards fighting these horrible diseases.’
