Maize Training Days 2013-MGA

In the light of the most challenging year for maize growing in the past 25 years, the Maize Growers Association (MGA) has decided to run a series of one day courses on maize production throughout the coming winter.

This course is designed for all those who are new to maize growing, as well providing the more experienced growers with a refresher/ update on the new methods, to help achieve better maize crops. 

All areas of production will be covered:

  • What sort of maize?
  • Maize economics
  • Soil Compaction and soil management for maize
  • Drilling Date
  • Variety Choice
  • Seed rates and Row Widths
  • Sowing Depth
  • Starter fertilizer
  • Nitrogen and other fertilizer
  • Organic manures for maize
  • Trace elements
  • Herbicides
  • Maize disease and pests/fungicides

 Courses will commence at 10.30, aiming to finish at 4.00 pm

         18th January – The Waie Inn, Zeal Monachorum, Crediton. EX17 6DF

        23rd January – Duxford Museum, Duxford, Cambridgeshire. CB22 4QR

        6th February – Leominster Rugby Club, Leominster, Herefordshire.

        7th February - SAC Dumfries.

Cost of course:  £50 for members, £150 for non members, including one year’s membership to the MGA. (Normal MGA membership subscription £100+VAT). To register email
