Robert Kirkwood believes once you buffer feed cows in summer it is hard to get them to eat the grass that is in paddocks and grass management suffers. Instead, he grows Kale or Swift for July, with cows strip grazing it each morning before they go to pasture. In August they move on to strip grazing Fodder Beet, drilled at high seed rate, so there are more plants than grown on the area grown for harvesting as winter feed.
