New Recommended Lists 2013

New Recommended Lists 2013

Friday, May 10, 2013

On the 1st of May 2013 we launched the two new Recommended Grass and Clover lists for 2013. The traditional list from the last few years has had a revamp into two lists to become more farmer and merchant friendly.

For the launch we visited Neil Darwent's Walk Farm, Frome in Somerset. Neil, who is the front man of Free Range Dairy hosted us and our guest speakers, Chris Duller, Soil and Grassland Specialist, John Morgan, Creedy Associates, and Alan Lovatt, IBERS who covered how to recover from a wet year like last year and how a reseed.

The speakers spoke to our farmers, contracters, and trade guests about the importance of the soil and compaction, when you should choose to reseed, how the reseed is done, what grass species to grow and how they will all influence the quality of the ley. The main message BGS, DairyCo, and EBLEX wanted to get across on the day was how important it is to get all of these factors to get a good return on the investment that is reseeding. The trio also took the chance to remind farmer to only choose varieties from the Recommended List, as these are what is proven to grow in England and Wales.
