RGCL 2014 goes digital at DairyCo website

Monday, May 19, 2014

AHDB through its DairyCo and EBLEX sectors, BGS, Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC/Meat Promotion Wales) and BSPB have launched a new online database of the Recommended Grass and Clover Lists (RGCL), hosted on the DairyCo website.

The RGCL are drawn up after rigorous testing for attributes such as yield, persistency, quality and disease resistance. The RGCL testing programme is funded by plant breeders through the British Society of Plant Breeders and the ruminant levy boards.

For users in England and Wales this online tool means that with just a few ‘clicks’ farmers are now able to select and compare the latest recommended perennial ryegrass varieties, assisting them in selecting varieties to suit their individual farm requirements. You can access this at www.dairyco.org.uk/rgcl

Dr Debbie McConnell, DairyCo research and development manager said “Working with our industry colleagues we have been able to launch this online database which should benefit many farmers. We believe the introduction of a digital version of the RGCL is a very useful advance to help farmers easily access variety information and make comparisons between the various cultivars.”

For information and for a working demonstration of the new Recommended Grass and Clover database visit stand 329 at the Grassland & Muck event, 21/22 May and speak to forage experts from DairyCo, EBLEX and BGS.
