Success at Grassland & Muck Event

Success at Grassland & Muck Event

Monday, May 23, 2011

Almost 15,000 visitors attended the triennial Grassland & Muck 2011 event held at Stoneleigh, an increase of 2900 compared to three years ago when the event was last held, according to RASE.

The joint BGS, EBLEX and DairyCo stand, themed 'Ask a forage question', gave many farmers the opportunity to quiz our experienced farmers who came to share their practical experiences and our experts about various aspects of grassland management.

Chris Duller from DairyCo spoke to many people keen to learn the benefits of looking at soil structure, with Chris spending much of the event in a hole in the ground. Chris explained how to identify and deal with compaction for optimum grass growth, whether reseeding or not.  There were also regular demonstrations of grass plate meter use and other options for measuring and rationing grazed grass.

The joint stand focused on a number of specific areas of grassland management, including soil and nutrient management, clover, grass varieties and grazing management. Click here for more details
