Tried & Tested 2014 revised 'Think Manures'

Monday, May 19, 2014

Tried & Tested has been working with its partners AIC, BGS, CLA, LEAF and NFU in bringing their Think Manures booklet up to date.  The Environment Agency played a key part in ensuring the information is accurate, current and useful to both advisers and farmers alike.

The new hardcopy version is being made available at the Grassland & Muck 2014 event at Stoneleigh Park.  You can find copies at

  • Duchy College Rural Business School’s SWARM (stand number 914)
  • British Grassland Society (stand number 329)

Aside from the front cover, changes include:

  • The definition of slurry  and the notes associated with the diagram on separating clean and dirty water help to clarify the difference between slurry and dirty water,
  • Reference to manures heaps reflects the change in NVZ requirements in May 2014
  • The choice of spreading machinery has changed and the appropriate use of deep injection and high trajectory spreading has been clarified.

Think Manures is an illustrated guide to understanding

  • When to spread
  • How to make best use of your stores
  • How much to spread
  • Where to spread
  • How to spread accurately and evenly
  • Consider the likely return on investment for soil and manure testing on farm
  • Where to get further help and advice.

If you can't make it to the Grassland & Muck event, then you can request your copy by clicking here and providing your postal address details.

A downloadable PDF copy will be available shortly.
