EBLEX Better Returns for Beef and Sheep programme has published Improving Pasture for Better Returns.

The content for this publication was provided by BGS Society Director and two BGS advisers to council, Michael Shannon and Richard Simspon (Kinsghay).

It considers the potential of grass and describes how that might be achieved from addressing compaction, to pH, phosphate and potash, choosing the best varieties for reseeding and introducing clover. There are also sections on managing a sward in its first season and controlling weeds.

EBLEX levy payers can request a copy from EBLEX on 0870 241 8829. BGS has a limited supply available for non-levy payer which can be requested from the BGS office free of charge, using the web enquiry form.

BGS also has copies of the NIAB, British Society of Plant Breeders and BGS publication, the Herbage Varieties Guide, which includes NIAB recommended grass and clover varieties for England and Wales and some data for the trials for farmer use. Please contact the office as above for a copy.
