BGS Nutrient Wise Demos

BGS Nutrient Wise Demos

BGS started it Nutrient Wise Demos in 2009 to show farmers the practical aspects and  financial potential of being 'Nutrient Wise'.

The main site is near Crediton in Devon, where we have introduced whtie clover by a number of methods to save on purchased N, have reseeded an existing sward by two methods, with and without subsoiling, using new varieties to improve the production from manure and fertiliser applied. We have also set up manure demonstrations for each visitor group, showing different methods and allowing us to discuss application rates.

In addition, with the project now recieving funding as part of the SWARM initiative run by Duchy College, more satellite sites will follow across the south west of England, giving us the chance to work with a local grassland society or discussion group to set up a demonstration.

We hope many local grassland societies, BGS farmer members and other discussion groups will be able to visit the Devon site and then host a demonstration of their own.

See the reports below for further information or contact the BGS office on 02476 696600 or via the web enquiry form to book a visit.
