The BGS Nutrient Wise Demo programme aims to show farmers the practical aspects and financial potential of being 'Nutrient Wise'.
The demos have included :
Use of grassland aerators
Nitrate leaching losses
Soil testing to save you money
The benefits of good soil pH and how to maintain it
The use of different liming agents and their effect on pH
The importance of maintaining soil phosphate and potash indices for grass growth
The ‘Soil Smart:Nutrient Wise' Booklet has been produced as a result of the demo project. A pdf copy of the booklet can be downloaded at The SWARM Knowledge Hub website (click here to open).
The Nutrient Wise Demonstrations are held in conjunction with Creedy Associates and are part of the South West Agricultural Resource Management (SWARM) Knowledge Hub www.swarmhub.co.uk. This project was financed by the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) initiative in conjunction with the Rural Business School at Duchy College.
BGS is a membership organisation which acts as a communication forum, through events and publications, for the profitable and sustainable use of grass and forage.
