Join or Renew BGS Membership

Membership is open to everyone with a keen interest in grassland whether it be farming, research, or just a general interest and the pursuit of the Society objectives.

Our annual membership fee is £60 per person and discounted membership of £30 is available for those who are retired and students (under 25 years of age or older but still in full-time education). In order to claim this special rate, ID must be provided. Our preferred payment method is Direct Debit, but our various payments methods are below.

Please note that as of the 2016 AGM held on 20 June, standing orders as a method of payment for NEW members is no longer an option. BGS would also like to bring as many members currently paying by standing order onto an alternative payment method, the preference being Direct Debit (this is because some standing orders are difficult to amend which can lead to payment problems, including overpayment, which we would rather avoid). Members wishing to change a standing order instruction to a Direct Debit can download the form under 'publications' at the bottom of this page to instruct their bank.

Subscription to our scientific society is tax deductible in the United Kingdom.

Membership of the BGS offers many benefits: society journals, the bursary award scheme, conferences, seminars, workshops, member discounts and much more.

Join or Renew Your Membership - Direct Debit

Our preferred payment method is Direct Debit, with the major advantage for you of not having to worry about renewing your membership each year, we do the work for you. Plus, this reduces our admin costs, allowing BGS to do more for you and the Society. Therefore, we offer a fee reduction up to £15 (full member) and £10 (retired and students) for those using our preferred method. Overseas members are unable to take advantage of Direct Debit, so the reduced rate is available to you as standard. Please complete our Membership Form here and Direct Debit form through the icon below and return to the BGS office by email or by post. Existing members are urged to change to Direct Debit by completing the same form and returning to the BGS Office.
