X International Rangeland Congress 2016 - 1st Announcement - Friday, June 13, 2014

The X International Rangeland Congress (IRC) will be held in Saskatoon, Canada, July 17-22, 2016.

The aim of the IRC is to promote the interchange of scientific and technical information on all aspects of rangelands, wildlands and grass farming: including research, planning, development, management, extension, education and training and reclamation.

SUREROOT Project – Developing grasses that help mitigate flooding - Thursday, May 29, 2014

Scientists at Aberystwyth University's Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS), are working with partners at Rothamsted Research North Wyke in Devon to develop new grasses that enable grassland soils to capture increased volumes of rainfall.

The 5 year £2.5 million LINK project named SUREROOT is funded by the BBSRC (Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council), and match-funded by a range of industrial partners from across the food production spectrum, including the British Grassland Society.

Tried & Tested 2014 revised 'Think Manures' - Monday, May 19, 2014

Tried & Tested has been working with its partners AIC, BGS, CLA, LEAF and NFU in bringing their Think Manures booklet up to date.  The Environment Agency played a key part in ensuring the information is accurate, current and useful to both advisers and farmers alike.

BGS Grassland Competition Winner's host farm walks - Thursday, May 15, 2014

The British Grassland Society is pleased to announce that we will be hosting two open days in June, celebrating excellence in grassland management.

Andrew Owen of Pantygwiail Farm, Lampeter, won the Welsh Grassland competition and was a finalist in the BGS ‘UK Grassland Farmer of the Year’ competition in 2013. Andrew and family will host an open day in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance on Thursday 12th June.

Recommended Grass and Clover Lists 2014 - out now - Tuesday, May 13, 2014

Seven new ryegrass varieties and a red clover have been added to the 2014 Recommended Grass and Clover Lists (RGCL), which have just been published.

The lists, which include only grasses and clovers that have undergone at least six years of independent testing, offer grassland farmers an invaluable resource, enabling them to select varieties that will perform well in a particular system.
