BGS are moving office! - Monday, December 9, 2013

We are pleased to inform you that BGS will be moving office to Stoneleigh Park this Thursday 12th December. The new office address can be found below and on the Contact page. There will be no change to the office phone number or to staff email addresses.

Name change for British Seed Houses - Thursday, December 5, 2013

As of Monday 2nd December, British Seed Houses have a new name, becoming Germinal Seeds GB.

The change of name is being made to clarify the company's position within the Germinal Holdings group and to maintain consistency with other Germinal companies across the world.

Germinal Holdings interests now extend beyond the British Isles, with seed production, research and development and sales now taking place across Europe and as far afield as New Zealand.

EGF Conference Registration Opens - Thursday, December 5, 2013

EGF2014 in Aberystwyth,  7 - 11 September 2014

In 2014 the EGF will be 50 years old. To celebrate this important event the 25th General Meeting of the EGF, with the theme 'EGF at 50: the future of European Grasslands' will be held in Aberystwyth, Wales, U.K. from 7 - 11 September 2014.

The registration fee of £360 includes the conference proceedings, lunches, coffee breaks, welcome drink and reception, mid-conference tour and conference banquet. 

First BGS & NFYFC competition winner announced - Monday, October 28, 2013

Sarah Hurford has been named the 'BGS & NFYFC Grass Farmer for the Future' at an awards ceremony held in Fishguard on Wednesday, 23rd October. 

In September, BGS and NFYFC ran the very first grassland training day for young farmers from across England, with the support of a grant from Defra. The event was hosted by Tim Downes on his organic dairy farm in Shropshire.

Mathew Venables named BGS Grassland Farmer of the Year 2013 - Friday, October 25, 2013

Cheshire dairy farmer Mathew Venables has won the UK Grassland Farmer of the Year Award, run annually by the British Grassland Society (BGS).

BGS president Helen Mathieu, along with representatives of competition sponsors GrowHow and DLF Trifolium, announced the winner at a dedicated awards ceremony, in Fishguard, West Wales on Wednesday (23 October).

BGS Innovation Award for Louise as BGS say farewell - Friday, October 25, 2013

Louise Davison has won the BGS Innovation Award at the BGS Grassland Farmer of the Year awards ceremony in Fishguard.

The BGS Innovation Award seeks to recognise those who are currently making an outstanding contribution to the development, understanding or application of grassland and forage crop husbandry and technology. 

The award provides recognition for those making a recent impact at a technical, communication or practical level. 

A grassland field guide for farmers – Soil smart and nutrient wise - Thursday, October 3, 2013

As a legacy to the Nutrient Wise Demos, a sub-project of the SWARM Knowledge Hub, the British Grassland Society has produced a field guide entitled ‘Soil smart and nutrient wise – a guide for on-farm practice’. The guide is unique in that it takes the reader through the on-farm practical tips in line with the seasons.

NWD Liming Event - Thursday, September 12, 2013

The British Grassland Society will be bringing you a Nutrient Wise Demo at Duchy College on the 25th of September. 

The Demo will be focuesed on the importance of liming and different liming materials presented by Louise Davison and Lois Philipps of the British Grassland Society.

Save the Date! Forage Field - Thursday, September 12, 2013

SAVE THE DATE - Forage Field ‘Soil the hidden resource’ - Tuesday the 22nd of October 2013.

The British Grassland Society and RABDF have teamed up to bring you a one day conference focusing on soils, nutrient management and micro-organisms in agriculture.

We will have speakers coming along to speak on the basics of soils and nutrient interaction, using micro-organisms in slurry, the benefits of carbon for soil quality, and practical soil & grassland assessments.
