Farm walk and grassland management day - Monday, July 8, 2019

On 8th July 2019, Germinal are holding a farm walk and grassland management day concentrating on 'Driving milk yield with precision forage management'.

The event will take place at Peepy Farm, Stocksfield, Corbridge, Hexham from 10.30 am - 2 pm.

Grazing workshops in July - Monday, July 8, 2019

AHDB have organised a series of touring workshops throughout July focusing on how to use grass growth data to help create an autumn grazing plan to ensure the best possible start to the 2020 grazing season.

Topics covered will include:

  • Target autumn grass covers – to build cover, or not?
  • Flat or steep wedge? And its impact on 2020 season
  • Optimising production by maximising grazing

Attracted to Pembrokeshire by the BGS Spring Farm Walk at Trellyffant, Nevern, the tour was extended into the next day taking an overnight stay at St David’s, the smallest city in the UK.

The Super-G project is a European project involving 20 organisations in 14 different countries aiming to develop sustainable permanent pasture systems that also meet environmental objectives.

As part of the project they are holding a photo competition.  The competition categories are:

Strategic Farmers required - Friday, March 29, 2019

AHDB are looking for five new farms to take part in their Strategic Farm Programme, which has been set up to demonstrate the benefits of implementing best practice on farms and improve the financial performance of businesses
There are already 11 farms, mainly focused around suckler production, participating in the programme. This year they are looking to recruit farms from a range of systems but predominantly sheep businesses.

Plan to vaccinate cattle against lungworm six weeks before turnout - Tuesday, February 19, 2019

Vaccination can help create herd immunity to lungworm, but the oral treatment has to be given twice, four weeks apart, with the latter dose given two weeks before turnout. This means farmers need to buy their vaccine now.
