Post-Symposium Tour
Following the conclusion of the 23rd EGF Symposium on Multi-species swards, a Post Symposium Tour will take place between the afternoon of Wednesday 17th September and Friday 19th September.
The tour will start at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in Reading with a workshop focusing on multi-species swards. There will then be visits to sites relating to multi-species swards research and demonstration across Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. A cultural visit to the English Heritage site at Stonehenge will also be included.
Day 1 – Wednesday 17th September – Reading
12:30 pm Arrival and lunch at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, Reading (symposium and post tour symposium delegates)
Wednesday (afternoon): University of Reading Workshop – multi-species swards
Wednesday (evening): Oxford (Overnight hotel location/free time). The coach will be leaving Reading promptly at 4.30 pm
Day 2 – Thursday 18th September – Oxfordshire & Gloucestershire
Thursday 18th (morning): FarmEd (multi-species swards)
Thursday 18th (afternoon): The Royal Agricultural University (Herbarium and research trial site)
Thursday 18th (evening): Bath (Overnight hotel location/free time)
Day 3 – Friday 19th September – Wiltshire
Friday 19th (morning): Germinal Horizon Wiltshire (Research trial site). There will be the opportunity to explore research work currently underway at the site including:
- Long term multi-species (established 2020) trial under two different N regime, discussion of results to date
- Newly established multi species ley (2023) reviewing material under short and longer defoliation timings
- Legumes and Forbs mineral content
- Innovation in breeding, looking at breeding developments over time.
Friday 19th (afternoon): Stonehenge – Cultural visit – The people who built Stonehenge were farmers, herders and pastoralists.
